Goat Leaf on Tour

Goat Leaf Tour

Following a pair of sell-out shows at The Corporation in Sheffield, a winning run in the Metal 2 The Masses competition, culminating in a storming set on the New Blood Stage at Bloodstock and recent dates with New York legends Warrior Soul and Californian Stoner overlords, Fu Manchu, South Yorkshire’s Goat Leaf are prepared for one last aural assault to cap off a very successful year.

Capitalizing on the momentum gained from their second album, A Lack Of Oxygen and packed shows at iconic venues such as the Camden Underworld and Purple Turtle in London and The Asylum and Scruffy Murphy’s in Birmingham, the band have become a live force par excellence.

Teaming with Swedish noise merchants, Stonewall Noise Orchestra, the lads are hitting the road for a few dates in December, climaxing in headline slot on the second stage at the inaugural Winter Rocks festival at the band’s spiritual home, the Sheffield Corporation.

The tour stacks up like this:

December
3rd – Bannermans – Edinburgh
4th – The Hairy Dog – Derby
5th – The New Intrepid Fox – London
6th – Winter Rocks Festival – Corporation – Sheffield

Blast In The Belgrave Announce Headliner

Blast At The Belgrave 2

Here’s the announcement you’ve been waiting for!

It is with great excitement that Soulmare Promotions, in association with Wyrd Ways PR can announce the headliner for The Blast At The Belgrave: they are Leeds’ very own melodic powerhouse Chasing Dragons, a band still riding a wave of excellent reviews of their most recent EP, Checkmate. They are a welcome new recruit to a line-up of bands guaranteed to rip the roof off any venue that dares to house them.

You want proof? Checkout the video for Chasing Dragons’ new single, Broken Jaws:

The Blast In The Belgrave is a celebration of the achievements of female pioneers in the field of Heavy music, such as Doro Pesch, Sean Yseault and Angela Gossow, as well as being a tantalizing glimpse into the future, focussing firmly on a clutch of the best and brightest underground bands.

Gathered together by Soulmare Promotions for this special event are local bands, Severed Heaven, Dear Atria, Rugosa, Hungary’s Sorronia and newly announced headliner, Chasing Dragons. On the evening of the 20th of November at The Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen, for your entertainment, these five bands will tear Leeds a new one!

Leeds band Chasing Dragons are a snarling beast, fusing frenetic stabs of penetrating guitar, thunderous vocals and a titanic rhythm section, all of which bind moments of Metal and Hard Rock with a raging Punk undercurrent. Drawing comparisons to Iron Maiden, Avenged Sevenfold and Aiden, Chasing Dragons are making some serious noise, having shared the stage with Skindred, The Blackout, Funeral For A Friend, Glamour Of The Kill, Pendulum, Death Angel, The Sweet and many others.

Rugosa are a Brighouse-based Symphonic Epic Power Metal band, originally formed in early 2009. Their line-up has finally stabilized, allowing them to finally push on and take their music seriously.

Dear Atria are a five-piece from Leeds. Since their formation last year, they’ve released a pair of music videos and their debut EP. The band’s sound consists of dual guitar harmonies, melodic choruses, heavy breakdowns and female vocals to add that little bit of sweetness to the mix.

Sorronia are a Symphonic Metal act from Budapest in Hungary. They were originally formed in November 2011 by Anna Király (vocalist) and István Biró (keyboardist). The concept was to form a new female fronted act with smooth rock fills, but with hard, Metal riffs and Gothic elements, accompanied by a Symphony Orchestra. You can hear the result when they hit the stage.

Formed in 2007, Leeds quintet Severed Heaven expertly combine elements of Death, Doom and Black Metal, all executed with a power and passion largely absent in the male-dominated Metal genre. Spine-tingling guitar harmonies are interwoven with crushingly brutal passages, all capped off with ferocious, feral vocals and the band’s very own West Yorkshire Chug.

Initially consisting of Lauren “Satanica” Price (vocals), Leanne Warren (guitars), Vanessa Murray (guitars), Charlotte Bleasdale (bass) and Anna Stewart (drums), Severed Heaven released their debut album, Incessant Darkness in 2010. The band’s gigging schedule has covered the length and breadth of the country, seeing them share stages with the likes of Gorgoroth, Hecate Enthroned, Sworn Enemy, Hate and Nemhain. Better yet, the band earned a headlining slot on the unsigned stage at Bloodstock Open Air in 2009, and met the occasion with a stellar performance.

Tickets are available from SoulMare Promotions, Crash Records and Jumbo Records in Leeds, £5 in advance, £6 on the door.

Blast In The Belgrave

Blast At The Belgrave

In a musical genre traditionally dominated by the masculine, the feminine has, with a few notable exceptions, been side-lined.  Now, following a trail blazed by Doro Pesch, Sean Yseault and Angela Gossow, a new generation of women have finally begun to smash past the hegemony of male pre-eminence.

The Blast In The Belgrave is a celebration of the achievements of those pioneers in the field of Heavy music and a tantalizing glimpse into the future, focussing firmly on a clutch of the best and brightest underground bands.

Painstakingly gathered together by Soulmare Promotions for this special event are local bands, Severed Heaven, Dear Atria, Rugosa, Hungary’s Sorronia and an as yet un-named headliner.  On the evening of the 20th of November at The Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen, for your entertainment, these four bands, plus the special surprise headliner will tear Leeds a new one!

Rugosa are a Brighouse-based Symphonic Epic Power Metal band, originally formed in early 2009.  Their line-up has finally stabilized, allowing them to finally push on and take their music seriously.

Dear Atria are a five-piece alternative Metal band hailing from Leeds, formed in early 2013.  Since then, the band have released a pair of music videos and their debut EP in May 2014. The band’s sound consists of duel guitar harmonies, melodic choruses, heavy breakdowns and female vocals to add that little bit of sweetness to the mix.

Sorronia are a Symphonic Metal act from Budapest in Hungary.  They were originally formed in November 2011 by Anna Király (vocalist) and István Biró (keyboardist). The concept was to form a new female fronted act with smooth rock fills, but with hard, Heavy Metal riffs and Gothic elements, accompanied by a Symphony Orchestra. Once fully formed, the band took a year to perfect their sound. They explored how the songs should sound, how to make them unique, how to merge the styles and experience of its members, and how to fuse the different styles into the music that was about to be made.

Formed in 2007, Leeds quintet Severed Heaven expertly combine elements of Death, Doom and Black Metal, all executed with a power and passion largely absent in the male-dominated Metal genre. Spine-tingling guitar harmonies are interwoven with crushingly brutal passages, all capped off with ferocious, feral vocals and the band’s very own brand of “chug”.

Initially consisting of Lauren “Satanica” Price (vocals), Leanne Warren (guitars), Vanessa Murray (guitars), Charlotte Bleasdale (bass) and Anna Stewart (drums), Severed Heaven released their debut album, Incessant Darkness in 2010.  The band’s gigging schedule has covered the length and breadth of the country, seeing them share stages with the likes of Gallhammer, Gorgoroth, Hecate Enthroned, Sworn Enemy, Hate, Shining and Nemhain, as well as appearing at the Dames Of Darkness festival. Better yet, the band earned a headlining slot on the unsigned stage at Bloodstock Open Air in 2009, and met the occasion with a stellar performance.

The headline band will be announced shortly.  Stay tuned for details.

Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Go Back To Dewsbury…

Old Turk Logo

The news many of us in West Yorkshire have been waiting for has finally been revealed.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Evile bassist Joel Graham said, “I am finally very pleased to announce that I will be taking over as the new manager when [The Old Turk] reopens.”

The current plan, which is on target at the moment, is to open the doors on Friday 31st October.  Appropriately enough, Halloween night.  Initially, Joel plans to open the pub on Friday and Saturday nights as well as hosting live music and special and private events on request.

Currently, the pub is being remodelled and redecorated.  This includes the building of a stage.

There will be more progress updates leading up to opening night, as well as the starting of a Facebook page which will also be used to keep friends up to date with forthcoming events “and other good stuff”, to quote Joel.  Having spoken to him about this at Bloodstock, other plans include possibly hosting a West Yorkshire edition of Metal 2 The Masses as well as a spot of DJing from my good self in a live version of The Wyrd Ways Rock Show.

Westival 2014 – The West Riding, Dewsbury

It is with great pleasure and excitement that The West Riding Refreshment Rooms in Dewsbury presents the inaugural Westival, kindly sponsored by Heineken.  Running from 5th – 7th September, this event promises three days of good food, fine beers and Real Ales and excellent music in support of The Kirklees Music School and other local charities.

Curated by Joel Graham, bassist with Yorkshire Thrash Metal heroes Evile, the Westival is a three day event celebrating some of the hidden treasures of West Yorkshire.  The eclectic and varied bill features Founding Fathers of British Thrash Metal, Toranaga, veterans of Sonisphere and Leeds/Reading Festival, The Eureka Machines, masters of Progressive Doom, Thine, plus The Kirklees Swing Ensemble and upstarts such as The Treated, Psyclozine and Cardboard Cowboys

As for the food, the American Road Hog Diner will be presenting their American classics alongside the mouth-watering gorgeousness that issues forth, freshly prepared, from the wood-fired ovens of the Yorkshire Pizza Kitchen.

To wash it all down, Westival will be featuring the finest Real Ales from across the UK alongside established favourites such as Timothy Taylor and Black Sheep.

The West Riding is the pub situated in the former waiting rooms at Dewsbury Railway Station.  If you think that sounds familiar, you’d be correct.  The pub is part of the renowned Trans Pennine Ale Trail, as celebrated by Top Gear’s Captain Slow, James May and wine expert Oz Clarke in Oz And James Drink To Britain.
